NSW is proud to announce that they will be hosting the 48th National Barefoot Waterski Championships in April 2010. The event will begin on Monday the 5th April and have final events on Saturday 10th April. Skiers from ages as young as 6 years old ranging through to the more "mature" skiers battling it out to be named the 2010 National Champion.
As well as individual age categories, the National event, in which 6 of the 8 States and Territories compete, has team trophy awards such as the honourable John Steklenberg trophy, which is awarded to the team with the highest scoring juniors overall. John Beattie, the NSW Club President, is quietly confident in his clubs abilities; "The John Steklenberg trophy is definitely one of the most competitive trophies for all the states. NSW is really seeing some amazing point scores for our juniors, but I’m sure we will have some stiff competition from Queensland and Victoria. It all comes down to how you ski on the day".

Note* Some of the above dates/ events are subject to change due to weatherWelcome to the NSWBWSC. Our club currently operates from the banks of the Georges River in Moorebank. Our site has been home to many of the our sports current and previous Australian and World Champions including Dodd Dwyer, John Pennay, Robert Blaauw, Brenton Crouch, Nathan Forge, Tim Failes, Gavan Beattie, Gizzie Hallasz, Donna Schmidt and Colleen Thompson (formerly Wilkinson).
Our club has a Proud history of producing exceptional skiers as we are lucky enough to have access to one of the best wind protected stretches of water in the world for Barefoot Waterskiing.
The site as it is today was discovered by Nick Hunt and Graeme Dwyer. The early days were tough; there was a lot of red tape to get the site compliant including the removal of rubbish and dumped cars from the river so it was safe enough to ski in. A boat ramp and club house were erected so we could store our boats and equipment. The forefathers of this club which include the likes of Graeme Dwyer, Nick Hunt and Sam Pace laid a great platform for the future growth and success of the club.
In 1994 the worlds best barefooters converged on Moorebank and we hosted our first world championships. Local Champ John Pennay eventually took out the Overall and Trick title and dominated a star studded field which included the likes of Ron Scarpa, Lane Bowers and Brett Sands. Moorebank hosted the world championships again in 1998. We have also hosted a number of National and Asian Australisian Championships and we are lucky enough to be hosting the 2010 Nationals in April.
NSWBWSC's goal is to be the premier Barefoot waterski club in Australia by promoting a team based environment where we can collaberate and work hard together to ensure the longjevity of the club and pass it on to the next generation of skiers; we also aim to advance the skill level of all of our skiing club members by providing access to great boats, great coaching, great water and opportunities to ski in Local and National competitions.
On behalf of all of our club members, thanks for visiting our website, we hope you can join us out on the water sometime soon!
